Job DescriptionThe Executive Director of Foundation and Development at Minnesota State College Southeast develops and oversees a comprehensive community awareness and fundraising program that supports the mission of the college and Southeast?s Foundation. The position is responsible for managing a multi-faceted program which includes strategies, donor research and prospecting, cultivation of community and corporate partnerships and college-wide fundraising strategies through individual and corporate gifts, major gifts, planned giving, an annual scholarship campaign, grants and alumni relations. This director motivates and provides leadership for the Foundation Board of Directors; as well as, leads staff to advance the goals of the college and Southeast?s Foundation. It has oversight of external partnerships, alumni relations and scholarship programs. This position involves significant discretion and has substantial involvement in the development, interpretation and implementation of both institution and program policy. This position interfaces with a broad array of colleagues across the college, System Office, and general public. The Executive Director of Foundation and Development plays a prominent role as an ambassador of Southeast, serving to generate publicity. This position is responsible for strategic development of initiatives with campus-wide impacts. This position may be located at either the Winona or Red Wing campusPRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIESComprehensive Resource Development. Provides strategic direction for the Foundation to develop and manage a fundraising plan including strategies to maximize event revenue, annual campaign contributions, and major gifts while fostering new partnerships. Lead and manage comprehensive resource development programs to align the college's mission and academic goals with business, philanthropic, and government support for Southeast. Plan and implement initiatives related to annual and major gifts, corporate and individual donations, alumni relations, in-kind donations, and grants (federal, state, private). Lead initiatives to expand the Minnesota State Leveraged Equipment Donation Matching Program, ensuring maximum funding for instructional equipment donations.Collaborate with college leadership, the system office, and external organizations to ensure resource development programs align with college strategic goals and annual project priorities.Actively engages in college, community and Minnesota State system organizations and activities; participates in targeted community service organizations and foundations that present potential partnerships and funding.Build, maintain, and manage a portfolio of key donors, alumni, business partners, government agencies (local, state, federal), higher education agencies, and private foundations, to increase funding opportunities, cultivating relationships and securing financial and in-kind contributions. Engage with major and leadership gift prospects, developing stewardship strategies for ongoing donor relations. Track all engagement in the alumni/donor database.In collaboration with the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Director of Communications, design, modify and implement an integrated external relations marketing plan for the Foundation, developing strong relationships with potential and current donors to move them along the continuum of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.Oversee and provide leadership for fundraising campaigns, including annual online campaigns, to increase employee giving, major gifts, planned giving, and special events. Lead the college?s in-kind donation program, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. Donations that may create new costs to the college must be approved by the President/President?s Cabinet (e.g., equipment, land, buildings). Create and manage a partnership and sponsorship model that expands business engagement in academic programs. Collaborate with faculty, deans, and business partners to identify mutually beneficial sponsorship opportunities. Develop and promote a major gift and a planned giving program including short and long-term fundraising goals in collaboration with the college President and the Foundation Board of Directors.Oversees the management of donor database/files, stewardship of current donors, follow-up procedures to ensure a smooth working Foundation office and donor liaison effort and provides guidance on database analysis and donor research.Oversees donor recognition programs and events including the processing of all gifts (i.e. endowed scholarships, planned gifts, pledged gifts, cash, etc.), follow-up communications and appropriate recognition.Reports regularly on gifts, grants and fundraising efforts to the College leadership team and Foundation Board.Maintain confidentiality and ensure policies are followed while promoting transparency with donors about legal regulations and giving requirements.Manage Minnesota State College Southeast Foundation Provides leadership, direction and coordination on behalf of the Foundation Board to advance the work of the college and the Foundation. Direct the operations of the Foundation as a separate 50l(c)3 organization and serve as the primary liaison between the Foundation, its Board, and college leadership. Oversee all Foundation functions including daily operations, budgeting, investing, board and committee management, financial reporting, scholarships, grants, and donor/alumni database management. Serve as liaison to the Southeast Foundation Board committees to facilitate engagement of board members and alignment with Foundation priorities.Manage the Foundation?s fiscal resources, including preparing the annual budget, overseeing monthly financial statements, and ensuring compliance with IRS, FASB, CASE, VSE, state of Minnesota, federal and non-profit regulations and requirements. Provide reports as needed.Responsibility for all Foundation assets and accounts; manages the Foundation's monetary assets in coordination with the Board's Finance Committee.Ensure compliance with auditing standards and manage the annual audit process in collaboration with external auditors and internal foundation and college personnel. Comply with requirements of the MN State Offices of Internal and Legislative Auditors.Develop and strengthen policies and procedures that align the Foundation?s operations with the college and legal requirements. Provide leadership for special events, alumni relations, donor recognition, and community outreach efforts.Represents the College and the Foundation in the greater community, nurtures positive, long-term relationships with college and community members.Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to promote the Foundation's work. Develop and produce print materials, electronic communications, media relations, advertising campaigns, special events, and serve as the key communicator for the Foundation.Ensure annual work plans, timelines, and outcomes for the Foundation are completed and align with college and community priorities. Provides oversight to safeguard confidential and sensitive donor information and all financial recordkeeping. Program Management. Provides leadership, direction and oversight of grants, student scholarship and alumni relations programs. This includes responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining various community outreach strategies. Recruits, trains and manages volunteers, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the College who assist with major gift cultivation, solicitation and recognition, community outreach events and other opportunities to advance awareness about the college.Lead and oversee all aspects of the college's grant-writing, administration, and reporting functions, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities. Providing leadership and oversight to the full scope grant processes at Southeast, including coordinating identification and submission of grant opportunities, technical pre-award and post-award activities, reporting, ensuring compliance with policies and tracking grant award revenue. Oversee the writing and review of complex, large, and technical grant proposals, serving as the expert in grant writing and ensuring high-quality submissions. Offer technical assistance to grant managers in developing and submitting proposals, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Develop training programs to engage faculty and staff in grant writing, sharing best practices for proposal development, stewardship, and achieving grant outcomes.Lead Southeast?s annual process of determining project priorities that align with potential external grant funding. Engage regularly with college leadership to learn about potential projects and proactively develop plans and timelines to submit funding requests for highest need college priorities. Plan and manage a comprehensive external funding program to successfully acquire grants and other external funding received to meet the college's strategic priorities. Research, identify and cultivate relationships with prospects from federal, state, and private foundations. Maintain accurate records of funding sources, their interests, and application deadlines. Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders about funding priorities, opportunities, and timelines, and support faculty/staff through the proposal ideation and internal approval process. Oversee scholarship programs and collaborate with internal departments to promote scholarship opportunities. Develops alumni relations plan to advance the mission of the college and the Foundation; provides oversight of related communications, advertising, print, website and social media platforms.Form and lead strategic alliances between alumni and Southeast to build relationships with and support from alumni. Provides oversight for maintaining the alumni network databases and giving levels. Staff Management. Lead, supervise, and direct department personnel.Assigns job responsibilities and end ensures work performed by direct reports is accurate.Conducts staff performance reviews; meets regularly with staff to review job performance including job clarification and definition of acceptable performance standards.Responsible for ensuring accurate employee position descriptions and encouraging development opportunities.Administers all areas of supervision in accordance with State of Minnesota rules and regulations and college policiesInterview, select, and train employees, recommends salary classifications and promotional adjustments.Perform other duties as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.Salary Range: $84,063-$121,522Minimum QualificationsThree (3) years of fundraising experience or non-profit management.Demonstrated individual and corporate fundraising success and experience in grant solicitation with a high success rate in securing grant awards and meeting fundraising goals.Experience supervising direct reports; as well as, leadership and project management experience in directing staff, setting priorities, managing change, planning, and organizing work.Proven skills in in financial management and budgeting in order to provide fiscal direction; as well as, investment management and understanding accounting principles and financial reports experience.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (present to groups, verbally and in writing) and build and maintain effective relationships across a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including high profile individuals and diverse campus constituencies.Demonstrated skills in problem solving and decision making; ability to maintain integrity of highly confidential information.Ability to travel frequently within the scope of the positionPreferred QualificationMaster?s degree Demonstrated experience leading a 501(c)(3) non-profit organizationHigher education experience, preferably community and technical college.
