Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, the Controller oversees the College’s accounting and financial operations including general ledger, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, and budgeting. The Controller will also prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and oversee internal control procedures and is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the College. Additionally, the Controller will monitor and ensure the College’s compliance with laws and/or regulations with regard to accounting and financial reporting and will serve as a staff liaison to the members of the Finance and Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversees the daily function of the financial operations of the College including cash management, endowment and investment management, accounts payable and receivable, general accounting, grants accounting, employee and student payroll, operating and capital budgets.
Leads and manages the monthly and year end closing process including the verification of assets, liabilities, revenue, expenditures and fund balances.
Ensures all accounts and funds are analyzed and reconciled, researches and corrects discrepancies
Develops and monitors the operating and capital budgets and provide variance analysis between budget and actual results to date.
Develops or modifies organizational structure, business processes, internal controls and policies to reflect best practices in order to improve efficiency, effectiveness and reduced cost
Monitors the Financial Accounting System (Banner) and provides recommendations to better utilize system functionality or reporting.
Coordinates External and Internal Audits and ensures timely completion of all audits.
Ensures the College’s financial activities comply with all related regulations.
Oversee the completion of regulatory required reports including tax returns (Form 990) and debt compliance
Train, develop, manage and coordinate the work efforts of staff within the accounting department and providing financial support across the College
Interact and provide information and expertise directly with the College President and cabinet pertaining to the financial operations and health of the College

Requirements:
Professional certification as a CPA.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area
Seven to ten years’ experience in a corporate or university setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Substantial experience providing leadership in complex, diversified organizations, and significant responsibility in the following areas: designing, implementing and managing systems of internal control, personnel and operating policy.
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff and to successfully manage multiple projects through others in a decentralized organization.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral presentation skills, and demonstrated analytical skills in problem identification and resolution.
Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions, Banner experience is preferred
Preferred Skills:
MBA in Business Administration.
CIA and/or CMA certification.
Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, business and systems operations and regulatory compliance requirements.
Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the College at all levels.
Advanced skills using common desktop/web applications.
Advanced service orientation skills; excellent skills in management and leadership; advanced ability to use critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making skills to creatively solve problems. Strong orientation toward excellent customer service.

Salary: $175,000 - $225,000 Annually
