Reporting to the Managing Partner, the Finance & Accounting Executive will be responsible for the oversight of all accounting and financial reporting activities for the company. The candidate will maintain the effective and efficient functioning of the day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including the corporate, investor/portfolio and property levels.
Oversee the Corporate Accounting and the Investor/Portfolio Accounting and Reporting functions of the organization;
Establish and maintain standards, policies and procedures to ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of the financial books and records, processes and procedures of the Company and its funds on a GAAP, Investment Company GAAP fair value or IFRS basis of financial reporting as applicable;
Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s financial risk profile, including the establishment and monitoring of reliable control systems;
Maintain corporate records as required by compliance policies;
Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations;
Manage any third parties to which accounting and financial functions have been outsourced (e.g., property management companies and/or business management companies);
Review and approve all financial information and financial reporting filings;
Proactively monitor new accounting pronouncements and developments, and implement them relative to the vehicle’s particular situation;
Oversee quarterly and annual preparation of the company's financial statements;
Oversee quarterly and annual preparation of investor statements;
Oversee and review the preparation of all investor requests prepared by the accounting team;
Provide ongoing accounting support to business operations.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting and reporting skills in commercial real estate with a collaborative and supportive attitude.
The successful candidate will have 10+ years of experience that includes accounting and financial reporting with a thorough understanding of the commercial real estate sector.
Experience with a private equity firm, real estate investment management firm, REIT or in public accounting is ideal.
Excellent computer and systems skills, preferably with some implementation knowledge as well as database and modeling applications experience.
Previous success in building and scaling the finance function is preferred.
This person must successfully manage, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing team.
The successful candidate must be a quick study who can respond to matters affecting the business in a timely manner.
With proven problem-solving abilities, this person must have a strong background in process, policy and internal control evaluation and documentation.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work under pressure and interface effectively with all levels of management are essential.
