Position Summary:
The Office of Investment Management seeks an experienced, talented, and intellectually curious investor to join a small, collaborative team with responsibility for the day-to-day management of the University's $700 million endowment and other investments. As a senior member of the team, the Director of Investments will collaborate closely with the Chief Investment Officer to establish and execute a comprehensive investment strategy, provide leadership in the continued development of a best-in-class investment office, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across the University, including the Investment Committee and departments of Treasury, Accounting, Tax, Legal and Institutional Advancement.
This role has the potential to be a remote position.Position Responsibilities:
The Director of Investments will contribute to the investment process by serving as a thought partner to the Chief Investment Officer. Specifically, s/he will play a leading role in evaluating and recommending investment opportunities across all asset classes, and collaborate on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and risk management.
Additionally, the Director of Investments will:
- Work closely with the CIO to establish, review, recommend and modify strategic asset allocations, as well as tactical adjustments to the portfolio within the approved Investment Policy
- Source and maintain a pipeline of investment opportunities that will provide a strategic advantage to Yeshiva University's investment portfolio
- Conduct thorough due diligence on the most compelling prospective opportunities including analysis of investment strategy, process, organization, portfolio positions and performance
- Maintain a network with the outside investment community to expand office knowledge regarding investment opportunities and to serve as references
- Monitor performance, portfolio positions, current events, and organizational changes of Yeshiva University's existing fund managers and completing analytical reviews to evaluate the performance of each fund manager on a regular basis
- Prepare and present recommendations regarding new investment opportunities and asset class updates to the Investment Office Staff, as well as presenting regularly to the Investment Committee
- Collaborate with colleagues across the portfolio, including coaching and mentoring the other members of the investment team
- Act as a team player within the investment team; holding others accountable, providing clarity, encouragement, and feedback, as well as being receptive to feedback and making modifications to one's approach and behaviors, as needed
- Assist in building the team's reputation for professional excellence and credibility both inside Yeshiva University and throughout the investment management community
- Research and lead topics of discussion on an ad-hoc basis
- Extensive domestic and international travel to meet with investment managers is integral to the role. All travel is subject to our business travel guidelines
- The position is structured as a fully remote position and is subject to YU's Remote Work Policy. While relocation to the New York City area is not required and much of the work can be successfully performed remotely, regular travel to meet with managers and members of the Investment Office in New York City is expected
Experience & Educational Background:
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 15 years of experience managing investments across a broad range of asset classes in an institutional context, such as at a university endowment, foundation, pension fund, fund of funds, consulting firm, family office, hedge fund, institutional asset management firm or similar organization
MBA and/or CFA preferred
Skills & Competencies:
Qualifications include:
- Strong working knowledge of portfolio theory, global markets and valuation signals, derivatives, and other investment strategies
- Strong investment track record through complete market cycle(s)
- Ability to incorporate rigorous qualitative and quantitative analyses in the evaluation of investment strategies, human and organizational dynamics, investment processes, and investment performance
- Ability to think creatively and independently when exploring investment themes and off-the-run strategies
- Curious, proactive mindset with an evident passion for investing
- Clear investment philosophy, with the ability to remain intellectually open to new ideas, approaches, and feedback
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to engage in robust, constructive investment dialogue
- Experience serving in a leadership/managerial position (e.g., hiring, supervision, conducting performance reviews)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to further establish Yeshiva University as a desired LP to top-tier investment managers
- Willingness to lead or assist on efforts to build out the platform outside of day-to-day investing
- Possessing the highest level of integrity, honesty, and sense of fiduciary duty
