The Investment Manager is part of the Office of Investments (OoI) at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor that will focus on our private investments portfolio and will report to the Head of Private Investments. The Investment Manager must have excellent research and critical thinking skills and ability to synthesize large amounts of data and information in a clear and concise manner; superior financial modeling and analytic skills; ability to gather, organize and analyze data using Excel and complex formulas; strong written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with stakeholders; and the ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the Head of Private and Public Investments, Head of Research, other Investment Managers, and Investment Analysts, globally source and meet with prospective and existing private investment managers. As needed schedule, coordinate, and perform onsite manager visits. Prepare meeting materials.
- Contribute to the written and analytical due diligence process on all traditional and alternative investments. As needed coordinate, oversee, and author manager due diligence reports.
- Individual will be responsible for keeping apprised of industry trends and capital market research related to private investments and provide capital market data and commentary to help evaluate, communicate, and implement tactical views.
- Network with industry professionals to enhance success of the investment process.
- Work with internal groups to carry out strategy-specific, risk, operational, and legal due diligence.
- Participate in the enhancement of OoI's manager database. We use the system to source, monitor, update, and cross-reference pertinent information regarding existing and prospective investment managers.
- Maintain qualitative and quantitative manager information in OoI's databases for existing and prospective managers.
- Analyze industry trends and conditions such as capital flows, valuations, and trends that may impact global capital markets.
- Assist in highlighting and communicating private investment portfolio exposures as a part of total endowment risk assessment.
- Assist in the preparation of communications to the Board of Trust Investment Committee.
- May be responsible for the development and implementation of quantitative tools to enhance the endowment's risk analysis and asset allocation processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position does not have supervisory responsibility but will be responsible for mentoring investment analysts. The position reports administratively and functionally to a Head of Private Investments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree is necessary.
- Master's degree in Business Administration is preferred.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience necessary.
- Deep understanding of how performance is calculated and experience.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to write and present information for a diverse set of audiences.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and professionalism.
- High degree of humility and integrity.
