Job Description
Brown Advisory is currently seeking a professional, detail-oriented and self-motivated Fixed Income ESG Research Analyst. Based in Baltimore, this individual will be embedded into the fixed income investment team to support the ESG research needs of Brown Advisory’s institutional investment strategies. In addition to conducting ESG research and engaging and working with portfolio management teams and analysts, the ESG Analyst will have the opportunity to represent the team and communicate our ESG integration process to clients, consultants, and prospects.
The primary duties of the position are to provide process-oriented and analytical support to our fixed income team on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities for securities currently held or under consideration. Securities may include, but are not limited to developed and emerging market sovereigns, corporates, municipals, and securitized. The candidate must effectively communicate differentiated investment insights to portfolio managers, the research team, and clients.
This will be a challenging and dynamic role that requires an analytical and critical thinker that enjoys solving problems with a strong attention to detail. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

A deep knowledge and passion for both global markets and sustainability issues, and has experience analyzing ESG factors as they pertain to sovereign, corporate, municipal and corporate debt and has the ability to provide objective analysis that translates ESG research to investment risks and opportunities.

Strong investment acumen and understanding of fundamental research.

Team player, who will work hand-in-hand with other ESG research analysts, fundamental analysts, and portfolio managers. This analyst should bring diverse perspectives, and a willingness to learn from others.

The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Conduct ESG Assessments, analyzing the ESG risks and sustainable investment opportunities of our fixed income holdings

Provide sector-level analysis on the ESG risks and sustainable investment opportunities

Monitor and document ESG-related news and controversies for our fixed income holdings

Engage with ESG and credit analyst teams and ensure collaboration amongst sector coverage and analysis

Keep abreast of ESG topics and trends, particularly as they relate to the growth of the global sustainable fixed income market

Establish and help execute an engagement agenda with fixed income issuers and consider research partnerships to further our effort

The ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) action-oriented investment recommendations clearly and with conviction while contributing to an open investment dialogue
Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or other equivalent a plus

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related role, ideally at in investment management organization as an ESG research analyst or in a sustainability-oriented research role

Knowledge of fixed income investments, including developed and emerging market sovereigns and corporates, municipals, and securitized, preferred

Superior analytical, research, writing, and communication skills

Knowledge of investment and ESG tools and methodologies such as MSCI, CDP, FactSet, and Bloomberg is preferred

Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn new software applications quickly such as databases and web applications

Ability to work in an office location
