Job Summary: | Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the Portfolio Manager will play a significant role in the management of TCU’s endowment portfolio and help achieve superior risk-adjusted long-term performance. The position is responsible for the sourcing, diligence, execution, and monitoring of investments across asset classes. The ideal candidate will be an experienced private markets investor but possess the capacity to successfully operate in a generalist team-based approach. The successful candidate will be committed to and passionate about TCU and its mission and excited to enhance a high-performing investment portfolio as a senior member of the team. |
Duties & Essential Job Functions: | 1. Works closely with the CIO in sourcing, evaluating and executing all investment strategies, including the selection and monitoring of external investment managers. 2. Conducts thorough due diligence (both investment and operational) on the most compelling prospective opportunities including qualitative and quantitative analysis of investment strategy, risk, process, organization, portfolio positions, and performance. 3. Evaluates, negotiates, and structures investment agreements with fund managers. 4. Monitors performance, portfolio positions, current events and organizational changes of TCU’s existing fund managers and completes analytical reviews to evaluate the performance attribution of each investment strategy. 5. Develops and maintains a network with the institutional investment community to expand TCU’s knowledge regarding investment opportunities and to serve as references. 6. Attends annual meetings and advocates for TCU’s interest at advisory board meetings. 7. Utilizes data, technology, and reporting systems to ensure effective monitoring of and reporting on investment positions and performance. 8. Reports strategy results to the Board of Trustees and informs of portfolio changes. 9. Represents the TCU Endowment investment program through speaking engagements both within and outside of TCU. 10. Mentors and trains junior staff members. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned. |
Required Education & Experience: | • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. • 10+ years of recent full-time professional investment experience on an institutional asset management platform, including but not limited to an endowment, foundation, family office, Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) or other sophisticated investment platforms. |
Preferred Education & Experience: | • Master’s degree from an accredited university with major coursework in business administration, finance, accounting, economics or related areas. |

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training: | • Ability to be certified as a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). |
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: | • Knowledge in investing across multiple asset classes, including private equity; direct private equity investing, while not requisite, is highly relevant. • Skill in effective planning and organization. • Skill in communication and conducting presentations, both spoken and written. • Ability to commit to achieving excellence in investment performance, plus a reputation for sound investment judgment and risk management with a proven track record. • Ability to be a patient and disciplined investor who seeks and accepts a high degree of personal responsibility. • Ability to think creatively when exploring investment themes and make recommendations on the basis of independent primary research. • Ability to work independently and under time constraints. • Ability to build and maintain a high-quality network of investment thought-leaders and managers and an ability to access those resources for sourcing, manager evaluation, and reference checking purposes. • Ability to be self-motivated and directed, possessing the collaborative leadership skills that garner the respect, trust, and loyalty of others. • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international locations. |
