The Chief Operating and Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing and oversees the School’s Business Office, finances and Operations in a manner that complies with all applicable laws and regulations and that represents a high degree of efficiency, effectiveness, ethics and integrity. As a member of the Leadership Team of CESJDS, the CFO supports the educational mission of the School, reports directly to, and is supervised and evaluated by the Head of School. As a senior leader at CESJDS, the CFO is expected to role model, promote professional practices, and embody the values and mission of the School within the context of a pluralistic Jewish community.

 Responsibilities

• Oversee, lead, supervise, and evaluate the Controller, Director of Human Resources, Director of Operations and Security, Director of Information Technology, Transportation Coordinator, and Director of Food Services.
• Maintain effective financial policies, procedures, and operations in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Serve as a resource to the leadership team and other stakeholders when decisions have a financial impact. Work closely with the Head of School and volunteer leaders on strategic planning and management.
• Oversee and monitor all school financial investments, including endowment funds, invested operating funds, and Israel bonds. Serve as the primary liaison in banking relationships and with the School’s investment managers.
• Lead the Pension Committee in meeting fiduciary obligations in administration of the School’s retirement plan.
• Engage and hold primary responsibility for the outcome of the annual financial statement and pension plan audits.
• Develop, implement and monitor the operating budget and capital budget. Identify areas for cost savings, increased productivity and efficiency, and reduced waste and financial risk.
• Prepare regular financial forecasts to project fiscal year operating results.
• Engage in strategic planning for the School with the Head of School and other members of the Leadership Team. Prepare financial analyses to support planning for and implementation of long-term goals set forth by the Administration and the Board.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Ensure that best practices are followed in student enrollment and tuition assistance administration. Collaborate with the Director of Enrollment and Tuition Assistance to support recruitment and retention goals of the School while maximizing tuition revenue and meeting sustainability goals.
• Maintain business relationships with consultants, vendors, and colleagues at other schools.
• Administer grants from regional, state, and local grantor agencies, serve as primary liaison, and ensure compliance with all grant requirements.
• Review and administer all contracts for the School.
• Serve as the School’s primary risk assessment officer
• Keep the Head of School apprised of all business, operational, and financial matters.
• Work and collaborate with board committees (budget and finance, investment, and audit committees, and facilities and security task forces). Serve as the primary staff members for these committees.
• Prepare written materials for the Head of School Report, board updates, and other school materials as needed.
• Attend Board meetings and Executive Committee meetings as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
