General Responsibilities

Provide organizational leadership to advance the mission of MWF

• Set the tone for MWF's culture by being an advocate for our mission and strategy, coaching and developing others, and listening deeply to the full team
• Advance organizational priorities as a core part of the Senior Leadership Team and by fostering deep partnerships with colleagues across the organization
• Define and execute systems and processes leading MWF to sustainability and expansion
• Lead Finance and IT teams to meet their goals and advance the organizational strategy
• Create strong team cultures rooted in our vision for diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
• Foster a culture of innovation and continuous operations and systems improvements 
• Attract, develop, and retain the diverse and high-performing team to drive work forward
• Collaborate with the VP, Property Management and Facilities to manage the organization’s long-term asset management plan of the foundation’s real estate assets

Chief of Finance Responsibilities

Set the tone for MWF’s financial sustainability by being the primary voice and advocate of strong organizational stewardship of resources

• Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors and the Audit, Finance, and Endowment Committees and provide any financial presentations to these groups
• Provide monthly reports to the Finance Committee and lead quarterly Finance Committee meetings
• Provide counsel to the CEO on MWF financial matters, suggesting proactive strategies to keep MWF aligned with financial targets, programmatic growth, and organizational strategic plans
• Lead and support the multi-year financial plan to advance MWF’s mission, programmatic impact, and financial sustainability
• Oversee all financial modeling and strategic analysis
• Ensure all legal and regulatory responsibilities are met, including completion of annual financial statements, tax preparation and compliance, the audit process, and all requirements related to private operating foundations
• Build a deep understanding of Private Operating Foundation rules and requirements, and play the lead role in ensuring all internal and external stakeholders adhere to these rules.
• Provide oversight, from a financial standpoint, of property disposition strategy, including monitoring the property-owning LLCs over time

Oversee MWF treasury, investment strategy, and cash flow management

• Oversee treasury functions such as cash management, cash flow, and investment management
• Oversee the Foundation’s banking relationships, line of credit, and loan compliance 
• Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer to ensure our strategies for fundraising and donations are easily operationalized
• Manage the Vanguard relationship and work directly with the Endowment Committee to ensure strong long-term endowment performance
• Direct all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization, including oversight of all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems

Chief of Strategy Responsibilities 

Operationalize the strategic plan 

• Build buy-in for the organizational strategic plan, ensuring that all employees understand the strategic plan and how their work connects to organizational goals
• Drive the implementation of the strategic plan, making sure the programmatic strategy,  financial model, and operating plan set MWF up for success
• Create progress tracking processes and dashboards to monitor team and manager progress to goals
• Lead annual operating planning, quarterly goal-setting, and tracking process
• Thought partner to CEO on organizational strategy

Examples of early strategic initiatives

• Conduct landscape analysis to better understand how MWF creates value
• Partner with the CAP team to define a pathway to serve more students, while maintaining strong outcomes and lowering our cost per student
• Partner with the Financial Services team to research and recommend innovations in scholarship financing investments
• Partner with the HR team on strategic projects, including redesigning MWF’s compensation/benefits model
• Partner with the Property Management and Facilities team on strategic projects, including our long-term asset management strategy
• Partner with teams to increase efficiencies of processes 
• Evaluate capital allocation and ensure alignment with the new strategic plan
