Located in Knoxville, Tennessee, theInvestment Office manages the majority of the assets invested for the benefitof the University of Tennessee System. This capital base includes the University'sendowment of $1 billion, which will be the primary focus of this position. Thisglobal, multi-asset class portfolio contains public equity and debt, hedgefunds, private equity and debt, venture capital, real estate, naturalresources, and finally, a variety of credit instruments and strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investment Accounting andOperations Specialist is key member of a small, highly collaborative team andreports directly to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO). The position plays a centralrole in all aspects of investment accounting and financial operations, whilerequiring frequent interaction with numerous top-tier investment andfinancial-service firms. The ability toanalyze accounting data, exercise independent judgment, maximize availabletechnology, and build relationships are critical to the role.
Primary responsibilities includethe following:
Tracking all transactions and accruals, as wellas the book and market values of every investment.
Maintaining and supporting underlying investmentactivities in the trading and accounting systems, including daily activity confirmationand settlement, cash liquidity, and asset reconciliation.
Managing accounting data flow from BNY Mellon tothe University's general ledger.
Independently identifying, researching, andresolving variances in the accounting record for each monthly close.
Processing transactions, managing wires,onboarding new investments, executing purchases and redemptions, processingcapital calls and cash distributions.
Coordinating communication between globalbanks/custodians, the investment consultant, and investment managers.
Maintaining a complete record of all investmentsand financial information used for monthly accounting, annual audit, taxfiling, and investment purposes.
Monitoring settled and forward-looking cashbalances using an online custodial portal and Microsoft Excel.
Coordinating/preparing annual reports and auditdeliverables, including financial schedules and valuation support.
Fielding inquiries and requests from variousinternal and external third-parties and serving as a liaison for custodians,investment managers, and other service providers.
Driving improvement and, where necessary,building out current systems and processes.
Assisting in monitoring and processing a groupemail box for manager communications.
Assisting with processing payment of invoicesand contracts.
Completing special projects as directed bysenior personnel.
