Percentage of Time: 100 Organizational Area: Office of the Chief Investment Officer Location: Oakland, CA Posting Salary: Commensurate with experience Position Summary: The Senior Analyst, Investment Reporting will report to the Director of Data Management and will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the Office as well as external vendors and partners. The Office of the Chief Investment Officer seeks a Senior Analyst who is able to implement a well-organized, data and process driven, well controlled investment or client reporting environment. The Senior Analyst is expected to quickly develop in-depth understanding of the portfolios' investment and operational processes, allocations, strategies, and the current market environments. An important job aspect for the Senior Analyst is the collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Data Management to implement the tools and processes required to professionalize the reporting function in the office. The Office of the Chief Investment Officer is responsible for managing the University of California's retirement, endowment, working capital, and cash assets under the policies, guidelines, and performance benchmarks established by the Regents. The mission of the Office is to implement those policies and guidelines by selecting, executing, and monitoring investment strategies designed to add value over the benchmarks within a risk-controlled framework. The Office adheres to high ethical as well as professional standards in serving the investment management needs of its constituency. The Chief Investment Officer has full investment discretion while the Regents retain responsibility for Asset Allocation and Investment Guidelines. Job Close Date: Duties Duty 10: Develop and maintain a brand new Reporting Data Mart ('RDM') to support monthly, quarterly, and annual external reports. Develop and manage portfolio data controls and exception handling processes to enable accurate and timely reporting across the OCIO. Develop methodologies to capture and/or enrich data tables/elements to increase ability to automate reports and uncover portfolio analytics. Provide guidance on data flow/capture/display processes to support the review and approval process. Proactively identify and resolve data discrepancies between third-party and the reporting data mart. Provide guidance on capturing new investment structures/assets from a data management capacity. Continuously assess external vendors for new functionalities. Function:Data Management Percent: 40 Duty 20: Work cross-functionally with other in the OCIO and Product Managers and Head of Asset Classes to produce monthly and quarterly investment reports. Develop, maintain, and produce high quality, accurate, and timely investment reports for the Investment team, the Regents, and clients of the OCIO. Manage contents, templates, and timelines to deliver daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Collaborate with Investment, Operation, and Data Management teams to develop scalable and impactful analytics to enhance messaging and storytelling of investment reports. Implement a professional content management and reporting tool that includes elements of review, compliance, and approval processes. Establish relationships with consultants of endowments and campuses to better support data needs for their investment decision making processes. Partner with CIO to develop new functional dashboards for CIO and other leaders of the OCIO. Continually improve reporting efficiencies. Function:Investment Reporting Percent: 40 Duty 30: Lead and represent the interests of the reporting function in new tools and systems implementations. In so doing, develops a strong project management culture to: -Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for execution of projects; -Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives for reporting; -Manage the development of detailed project plans to monitor and track progress; Implement and manage adoption of new and innovative reporting platform: - Create scalable contents and templates that satisfies requirements of the Regents, campus CFOs, endowments, and internal investment teams. - Enrich content and formats of the reporting data mart to ensure connectivity and usability in a reporting platform. - Administer user profiles and custom dashboards. - Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly production line schedules. Adapt RDM to new data models and related tools and systems. Function:Project Management Percent: 10 Duty 40: Support custom reporting requests across departments. - Queries - Reports - Custom calculations Support investment teams and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Support continuous improvement projects across departments. Function:Ad-Hoc Percent: 10 Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in related area and a minimum of four (4) years of job related experience and/or equivalent experience/training. Demonstrated ability to build and utilize extensive personal network of industry contacts to share industry best practices. Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to interact with others in a consistently positive manner, exercise discretion and tact, and gain consensus in an environment where others may have strongly conflicting ideas and goals. Demonstrated ability to quickly research and collect pertinent information, identify critical points and integrate them to define and test options and alternatives. Insightful and creative skill in reasoning and logic and quantitative analysis demonstrated by ability to develop recommendations and justification for the most productive course of action. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including the demonstrated ability to articulate ideas and issues clearly, concisely, and persuasively to a variety of audiences and prepare and/or edit complex reports involving logical and quantitative analysis, so that it is clearly understandable by both technical and lay readers and effectively advances and justifies a specific proposal or set of recommendations. Ability to generate both qualitative and quantitative independent analysis. Plan and manage projects in their entirety and ensure they are delivered on time. Demonstrates good judgement when asking questions both internally and externally to seek desired information or understanding. Deep understanding of portfolios, asset classes, risk factors, and data structures. Knowledge of project management and systems development life cycle principles and practices within the context of investment management systems. Required Master's degree and/or CFA or equivalent experience/training Understanding of UC policy, guidelines, asset allocation, portfolio structure, investment strategies, managers, and holdings. Knowledge of investment software programs such as BlackRock Aladdin, Custodian and Banking Systems, Investment Manager databases, Bloomberg, Solovis, UC data structure. Working knowledge of data visualization tools/methods. Ability to query databases; coding experience preferred. Working knowledge of best practices for website design and development.
