The Senior Investment Director is responsible for managing the liquid team to effectively oversee all liquid investments that include long-only equities, long-short equities, fixed income, absolute return hedge funds and liquid real asset investments. Will serve as a team leader directing major areas of investment activity; responsible for recruiting, training and coaching junior staff; provides a considerable amount of research and due diligence to the entire investment process. This position develops and recommends investment strategies and implementation plans for the university’s endowment; recommends investment policies to appropriate administrative committees and CIO; recommends investment managers and ensures accountability of the investment managers for meeting expected financial returns, adherence to guidelines, reporting and service provision; requires overnight travel, some evenings and weekends required.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; considerable demonstrated success in a progressively responsible investment management capacity with at least 10 years of experience, including direct experience managing and mentoring a team of highly motivated and professional personnel in a performance driven investment organization; demonstrated track record of successful work with investment professionals; considerable experience selecting and managing external equity and hedge fund manager portfolios; deep investment knowledge and experience with macro and micro factors to assess and test investment management decision making; ability to understand complex investment strategies with the ability to assess qualitative and quantitative measures of performance and risk; advanced understanding and ability to decipher various statistical moments, measures, risk and return distributions, risk factors, and regression analysis; demonstrated ability to assess statistical measures to test ideas and understand drivers of performance and risk; ability to think creatively to solve investment problems and generate excess returns; experience using manager data software packages to create in-depth chart packages to evaluate manager and portfolio risk and return characteristics; the ability to articulate opinions and effectively communicate investment ideas; executive level written, oral, and presentation skills; interpersonal skills to develop relationships within and outside the university; represent The Ohio State University in a highly professional manner.
