Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) seeks a strategic and effective manager and collaborator to serve as its next Vice President of Finance and Accounting. An independent nonprofit dedicated to improving lives through biomedical research, HMRI has a brand-new state of the art laboratory, an annual operating budget of approximately $8 million, over $60 million in assets and a staff of 50 employees. Reporting to the CEO and supervising a staff of three, the Vice President of Finance and Accounting is a key advisor to the Board of Directors and Board Committees and is a key contributor to the formulation and execution of the organization’s long-term strategic plan. The Vice President is responsible for financial strategy decisions, oversees budgeting, financial modeling and analysis, accounting practices and procedures, and all borrowing, investing and cash management functions. The successful candidate should enjoy working as part of a team and must be comfortable in an environment that encourages and values collegiality, transparency and open feedback.
Preferred candidates will have a minimum of ten years in increasingly responsible management positions in the field of accounting and finance; preferably with some experience in a research, academic medical or healthcare environment with regular direct CEO and Board interaction. A strong understanding of accounting and financial systems, including experience evaluating, selecting, implementing and managing ERP/CRM systems is highly desired. A demonstrated track record of strategic financial planning, financial and investment management, and cash flow management is required. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a focus on Finance/Accounting; an MBA is preferred.
