The Public Institutions Group Risk Manager is a professional risk management position outsourced to Aon’s client Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) a professional services and investment management firm. JLL specializes in real estate and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The position is integrated within of the risk management group reporting to JLL’s International Director-Global Risk Management.
The Public Institutions group provides strategic real estate advisory for local, state, national and federal governments as well as public and higher education institutions. Services cover the entire real estate life cycle from strategy, public private partnerships, facilities management and sustainability services to transaction and project management.
This position will be responsible for providing risk management advice and support to JLL’s global public institutions business group. Responsibilities of the position will include purchase and renewal of insurance policies; consultation on insurance and risk issues; review and negotiation of insurance and risk provisions in contracts and other documents in conjunction with the Legal Group; participating in training; and other projects as required. Occasional travel may be required.
Thorough knowledge of all areas of commercial insurance
Familiarity with established risk management practices; awareness of current risk management issues
Basic knowledge of public entity legal and risk positions
Experience in managing insurance broker relationships
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to:
Effectively explain positions taken in conjunction with contract negotiation
Explain technical insurance issues
Discuss insurance and general business concepts relating to business documents
Negotiate effectively with attorneys and clients
Establish excellent working relationships with brokers, insurers, vendors and clients
Ad hoc projects as required; flexibility regarding assignments
General understanding of common real estate practices and experience in global insurance placements is a plus
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines in a fast paced environment
Detailed knowledge of insurance coverage and the ability to analyze policies to determine coverage
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel
Excellent negotiating skills
General knowledge of the legal process; experience in working directly with legal counsel
Strong administrative and organizational skills
Excellent time management skills; ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously
Ability to prepare underwriting specifications for insurance policy renewals, including excel charts and graphs
Ability to create PowerPoint presentations and other materials to provide general insurance and risk management concepts to internal business groups
Familiarity with real estate operations and related risk management practices is a plus
Education and Experience
Eight to ten years of insurance industry experience
Minimum of three years actual risk management experience

Advanced degree and concentration in risk management, insurance or law a plus
