Under the direction of the Controller, this position is responsible for a variety of accounting functions for Harvard University Employees Credit Union (HUECU) and will work with numerous financial systems to complete daily, weekly, monthly and year-end tasks. This position will work independently, investigate issues when needed and perform necessary reconciling and correcting actions in accordance with HUECU policy and procedures under moderate supervision. The Senior Staff Accountant provides high levels of customer service to internal and external customers in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
The HUECU Finance department is responsible for general accounting, procurement, accounts payable, cash receipts, expense report processing, journal entry processing, accounts receivable, fixed assets, prepaid expense and setting of HUECU specific policies and procedures. The Senior Staff Accountant will participate in all of these functions to varying degrees.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Share department responsibility for the timely uploading of the daily Secondary Market mortgage file(s), investor accounting, month-end file submission and reject clearing
Manage loan participation accounting and calculate monthly remittances
Manage accounting for loan purchases from outside lenders
Assist with FASB91 and CECL project implementations
Execute monthly FASB91 accounting and reconciliations
Assist with monthly CECL accounting and reconciliations
Complete daily Federal Reserve balancing
Reconcile credit card suspense account and work with the Card Services department to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
Complete monthly MANSTAT and Credit Committee reporting for senior management
Share department responsibility for daily credit card, student loan and Teller check positive pay file uploads
Share department responsibility for preparation of ATM balance report and work with Retail Operations department to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
Share department responsibility of posting incoming daily wire transfers and initiating/releasing outgoing daily domestic and foreign wire transfers
Reconcile bank accounts and balance general and/or subsidiary ledgers providing reasonable assurance of account entries and ending balances
Prepare adjusting and correcting entries found during the reconcilement process
Share department responsibility of Federal Reserve FR2900 regulatory report preparation
Assist with drafting quarterly Call Report
Share department responsibility for monthly Fixed Asset, Prepaid Expenses, Investment Management and Student Loan Deferment duties
Provide assistance with auditors and examiners, as required
Assist in preparation of monthly audit committee meeting documentation, as required
Share department Record Retention management
Assist with and act as backup for the weekly Accounts Payable function (including year-end 1099 and Sales Tax reporting)
Work with other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve issues
Performs special assignments, projects and other duties, as assigned

Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a minimum of three years' experience in accounting/finance, or a minimum of five years of progressive experience in accounting, finance or related field
Progressive banking, financial management or accounting experience preferred
Strong Excel proficiency required
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a small department as part of a team handling critical time-sensitive functions
Demonstrate the ability to learn and utilize numerous accounting and banking systems
