UBC Investment Management Trust is seeking a technically inclined and highly motivated individual for the position of Associate Director, Private Investments to source, evaluate and manage private investments in the University of British Columbia Endowment Fund and Staff Pension Plan portfolios. The Associate Director, Private Investments will report to the Director, Private Investments.
Develop and evaluate investment and allocation strategies for the $1 billion+ private market investment programs (Private Equity, Private Debt, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Infrastructure Debt)
Source, evaluate and complete due diligence on private market investments (funds and co-investment opportunities)
Develop and test financial models to analyze investment opportunities
Lead negotiation of provisions/fees, establish appropriate investment structures, work with external advisors, and complete closing documentation
Build and leverage relationships with private investment managers
Manage and monitor ongoing portfolio of private investment funds and co-investments
Identify and specify underlying investment risk exposures for fund/portfolio level analysis
Prepare and present investment recommendations and reports to internal and external stakeholders as required (e.g. internal Investment Team, Board of Directors Investment Committee, UBC Board of Governors)
Oversee valuation process for private investments
Evaluate and recommend improvements to processes and systems
Minimum 10 years of progressive work experience in the sourcing, due diligence, monitoring and management of private market funds and co-investments
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computing Science or similar quantitative discipline; MBA or Masters is highly desirable
CFA, CBV or CA designation an asset
In depth research, financial modeling, analytical and valuation skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to travel
