ACCOUNTING OFFICER, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF)-Controllership/Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), to be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, analysis, control, and ongoing development of complex accounting and financial functions in assigned areas. Will develop and make improvements to accounting and reporting processes; review and manage financial data using SAP and other reporting tools; and collaborate with VPF staff, the broader MIT community, and other external parties. Responsibilities include assuming ownership of various reports and schedules; performing financial analysis within key accounting areas; evaluating, documenting, and providing recommendations to improve efficiency and accuracy; assuming ownership of endowment, gift, pledge, and investment accounting and reporting; serving as key liaison to MIT's Investment Management Company and Office of the Recording Secretary; participating in audit activities; answering questions regarding financial accounting and reporting and developing accounting structures and financial reports; facilitating improvements to accounting information systems; participating in the development and delivery of systems-related user documentation and training; analyzing work processes/operations and offering solutions; and participating in or leading special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field; five-plus years' related experience; strong analytical, customer service, collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills; excellent problem solving skills; proficiency with Excel and Word; and self-motivation. Must be able manage conflicting priorities and meet strict deadlines; work independently and as part of a team; collaborate with a diverse group of individuals from varying backgrounds and levels; seek out and support opportunities for improvement and development; and function effectively in a complex, busy, and changing environment. Experience with reporting tools and accounting and reporting systems highly desirable. Experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting a plus. Job #14630-P
