We are seeking a Senior Research Analyst - Organizational Structure and Operations, who will be a member of the Business and Operational Due Diligence (BODD) team, and will be responsible for conducting operational due diligence reviews of investment managers. The BODD team is part of the Global Investment Research team at Progress.
Specific Job Responsibilities: •Develop due diligence assessments on 20-30 fund managers annually. This process will involve analysis and assessment of risk management practices, operational controls, and legal/regulatory disclosures. •Evaluate the quality of systems, controls, infrastructure and personnel in order to identify issues relevant to the overall investment decision. •Evaluate the adequacy and efficacy of the processes and systems used to monitor and manage the risks associated with the operations of hedge fund and long only managers. •Develop and leverage technology to maintain manager specific data and track due diligence metrics. •Prepare fund manager due diligence reports using independently sourced material in addition to submitted information. •Create full-length operational due diligence reports documenting results of on-site interviews, including recommendations, for broad distribution. •Review managers’ documented procedures. •Attend onsite meetings, conduct background checks, and prepare written analyses of managers’ business and operational capabilities. •Drive process enhancements to optimize the value derived from due diligence. •Research, document and analyze background information on investment managers and key personnel through public record databases. •Manage relationships with external background check vendors; review outsourced reports and highlight notable findings and provide perspectives and opinions on materiality and risk. •Exercise sound judgment and observe the highest degree of confidentiality.
Qualifications/Requirements: •Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related major is required. MBA/CFA is preferred •3-6 years of experience in investment analysis, operational due diligence, investment management operations, and/or investment accounting •Expertise in the evaluation of business structure, governance and understanding of the impact on long-term viability of organizations •Experience in the evaluation of internal control environments, operational risk management, negotiating agreements, or related areas •Basic understanding of risk frameworks and tools, including some practical experience in analysis and documentation of operational risks •Ability to employ strategic interview techniques, process information quickly while conducting verbal interviews, consider responses and identify inconsistencies •Excellent oral and written communications skills •Elementary understanding of processes within financial institution operations; knowledge of investment strategies and instruments •Strong investigative and quantitative problem solving skills •Working knowledge of internal controls and risk indicators •Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% of the time •Strong PC skills and ability to develop analytics and reports •Strong organizational skills •Attention to detail
