Located on campus in Pasadena, CA, the Caltech Investment Office oversees the Institute's investment management activities, including managing over $3.2 billion of endowment, trust, capital expenditure and working capital funds. The Investment Office, together with the Investment Committee, is responsible for selecting an asset allocation; evaluating potential new investments (including external investment managers and select direct opportunities); as well as ongoing monitoring of existing portfolio holdings.
The Investment Office is seeking an Investment Analyst to assist in portfolio analysis, monitoring, and reporting across the public, private, and alternative markets. The role is ideal for an individual with strong interest in institutional investing seeking exposure to a variety of asset classes. The Investment Analyst will support the five member investment team and report to the Senior Managing Director of Investments. This generalist role will provide an analyst broad exposure across asset classes and investment strategies. The Analyst must have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, developed quantitative and analytic skills, the ability to work in small teams, self-motivation, excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience with technology, and interest in investing.
Job Duties - Reporting - Support in gathering and processing data, creating and maintaining high quality presentation materials for internal and investment committee discussion. - Portfolio Analysis - Perform regular and ad-hoc analysis on the endowment, including performance attribution, exposure reporting, stress testing, and risk measurement, including oversight of software tools utilized to these ends. - Manager Monitoring - Help oversee existing manager relationships and regularly assess results analytically and track potential managers. - Investment Research - Support the team in assessing new investment areas, strategies, or asset classes. - Market Surveillance - Monitor closely financial press and keep track of market trends, opportunities, risks and new investment products. - Manager Due Diligence - Assist with due diligence of potential investments.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree with a strong academic record- finance or economics background a plus but not required. - 2 to 4 years of prior work experience; ideally within the finance, consulting, asset management, or related fields. - Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytical ability. - Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. - Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (Bloomberg, Salesforce, or eVestment experience helpful). - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. - Exceptional ethics and moral compass. - Progress towards or interest in pursuing a CFA or CAIA designation.
