Sr Staff Accountant Rochester Institute of Technology 3771BR Finance & Administration Treasury & Financial Reporting Services Detailed Job Description
Process capital calls and distributions to ensure compliance with legally binding agreements and University policies, including but not limited to ensuring necessary approvals have been received prior to making capital call payments, initiating electronic payments through banking portals, and recording activity in the general ledger.
Ensure investment related information (correspondence, financial information, partnership information) in cloud-based repositories is current and up-to-date
Reconcile investment manager statements, as received, to the University's general ledger. Review accounts to identify exceptions and irregularities; determine effect of adjustments and recommend solutions to management.
Prepare general ledger account requests for newly endowed funds identifying purpose, administrator and restrictions. Update Fundriver with the correct spending rule and identify the appropriate department, distribution project, functional expense category and object code.
Perform due diligence procedures for initial and ongoing monitoring and reporting for the University's endowment fund managers, including but not limited to reading and summarizing managers' quarterly and audited financial reports and contacting managers on an as-needed basis to perform due diligence.
Participate in internal and external reviews and audits including: 1) coordinate year-end investment confirmation process; 2) assist with annual audit schedule preparation; 3) assist with completion of the annual Management Self-Assessment and Certification process; and 4) assist with review of Quarterly Investment Report provided by external consultant for errors and/or omissions, and report findings.
Produce internal and external endowment reports including ad hoc donor fund market values reports, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Assist management in analyzing, implementing and testing investment accounting policy changes.
Cash Management Oversight:
Manage and execute transfers of funds to/from cash accounts to ensure appropriate balances are maintained for forecasted activity.

Perform other duties as requested by management.
Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional development annually (or a pro rata amount based on standard working hours). Training must be applicable to the employee's role current within the Controller's Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position.
Department/College Description The role of the dedicated professionals who work in the Treasury and Financial Reporting Services department within the Controller's Office is to provide accounting, reporting, compliance and long-term strategic planning for RIT's investments including the endowment portfolio, gifts, and deferred giving instruments;debt management and state and federal taxes; as well as to manage and provide transactional support for the University's daily cash accounts. Required Minimum Qualifications
BS in Accounting or related business field required or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Four to five years of experience in accounting, financial reporting and/or banking or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles required.
Must possess competence in analyzing and reconciling financial accounts and project management skills.
Must demonstrate initiative and strong attention to detail and possess the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and to work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt and learn new software and accounting regulations required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, is required.
