The overall purpose of this position will be to provide implementation support for Russell's global multi-asset and alternatives business, contributing to the overall strategy development and implementation for portfolios. The position will be expected to innovate daily processing, drive process and technology enhancements, implement operational policies, as well as perform daily functions/tasks. Daily functions include, but are not limited to validating portfolio information, analyzing portfolios in relation to market movements and product specifications, recommending and negotiating implementation options with implementation portfolio managers, portfolio managers, and coordinating trade execution. In addition, the Implementation Portfolio Manager (IPM) will initiate conversations with external investment managers to discuss, arrange and agree trading details. The IPM will interact on a real-time basis with other IPM teams, operations associates, client service associates, fund portfolio managers, overlay portfolio managers, foreign exchange portfolio managers and global trading on exposure adjustments, timing, and execution details. Additionally, this person will participate in calls with subadvisors/money managers, portfolio manager and strategy meetings.
The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
Provide liquidity analysis, exposure analysis and implementation recommendations to Multi-Asset/Alternatives portfolio managers. Instruct notional exposure changes for passive currency hedges related to significant cash flows
Responsible for daily trade blotter management for pooled fund trading and cash flows for select discretionary Fund of Fund portfolios and separately managed accounts. Deliver trades to transfer agents by dealing deadlines. Coordinate total exposure management when trading pooled funds, as derivative and sub-advisor trades will often be coordinated with pooled fund trading.
Assist in the implementation of directed trading for multi-manager/asset portfolios with real-time coordination/facilitation with internal and/or external parties (portfolio analysts, portfolio managers, traders, investment managers, external fund administrations, custodians and brokers). Prompt escalation, follow through, resolution and documentation of any trading issues. Instruct currency spot trades for managers operating on local currency different from base currency.
Validate account data, work with internal and external parties to investigate and rectify questionable data. Portfolio-level validations are a critical component of the portfolio management process. This requires analysis of global securities, derivatives, and/or currency markets and its related impact on fund and client portfolios. Escalate complex issues to analysts and/or appropriate management level. Maintain various databases supporting portfolio management and trading.
Additional activities include account administration, reconciliation of accounts on the investment accounting platform, performance reporting set-up and post trade compliance monitoring services.
Responsible for error tracking and resolution, monitoring of key performance indicators and reporting on associated metrics.
Responsible for overseeing and maintaining pipeline management.
Responsible for the coordination of fund and separate account transition events, including fund launches and closures, manager changes and new product launches/closures. Works with multiple departments to establish and manage implementation strategies as they relate to the implementation process, ensuring efficient, risk controlled plans for implementing a transition.
Be actively engaged in multiple parallel projects that are unifying Russell Investment’s investment book of record data (IBOR), front office order management systems, and portfolio management system. The IPM may need to manage portfolios in both legacy and new systems simultaneously to ensure appropriate controls are in place.
The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
Understanding of securities markets with background in Multi-Asset trading and Alternatives.
Understanding of equity, fixed income, and/or foreign exchange investment process. Exposure to trading, operational and/or funds environment
Understanding of custodian and investment accounting processes
Experience in the financial services industry
Ability to work under pressure, and to work on different projects simultaneously under tight deadlines;
Must be a self-starter as well as work well in a team environment
Must possess excellent communication skills at all levels (eg. written, presentation, relationship management) and execution skills
